FAQs

Why the name?

A few years ago, I was looking for a new name for my classes that would say: fun, spontaneous, we don't take ourselves too seriously, take what comes, see what moves you.  I brainstormed for three weeks, and just couldn't come up with anything that said it all.  I got frustrated, and in a moment of frustration, I blurted out, "Oh, I should just call it The Big Fat Ass Dance Class!"

And that was it!

Shy?  Footloose and Fancy-Free?

That's exactly why I created the class...   as a place to experiment with being who you are.  Letting go of self-consciousness, if that's where you want to go.  Reveling in your freedom if you've already found some.

There's no pressure to be "out there" and there's no right way to do any of it.  It's very much your own experience.  You might find yourself drawn into the rhythm and the group energy, you might find yourself in your own quiet movements, or anywhere in between.

The bottom line in this class is to do what feels right for you (pun acknowledged!)

Ages?

Ages in the class range from around 18 to around 68 -- and everyone in between.  Many students have commented over the years how refreshing it is to be in a group of many ages.

Injuries?  Out of Shape?

Try it out and see how it works for you.  Do what feels right for yourself.  If I'm leading a warm-up that doesn't work for your body, just do another stretch that you know works for you.  If we're going fast and you want to be going slower, just step into your own space and go at the speed you want.  Total permission to do it your way!

Big Fat Ass?

Any size ass welcome!  The BFADC® is for any woman who loves to dance... or thinks she might love to dance...  or is curious about dancing... or whose feet just start tapping when she hears a great tune.

No experience required.  And experience welcome.  Come play!

Observing?

No, I don't let people watch.  We're building some safety together so people can let go of self-consciousness... and part of the way we do that is by not being watched.

Do I Need to Register?
I ask people to register in a home-base class because we're building a sense of group and some safety so that people can begin to let go of self-consciousness as they dance.  That way, too, you have a reserved space held for you every week.

Can I Drop In?
You're very welcome to drop in for your first class, as long as space is available.  If you'd like to continue after that, I'll ask you to register and we'll pro-rate your fee for the number of classes remaining.

What If I Just Want to Try It Out First?
That's a great idea.  Choose Trial Registration -- pay $16 in advance to hold your space in the first class of the series (Weds Oct 19 or Thurs Oct 20 or Fri Oct 21).  If you then decide to register, that $16 goes toward your registration fee.

Can I Come to More Than One Class A Week?
You sure can!  I love to encourage this.  Come to as many classes a week as you like.  As a registered student, once you've attended the number of classes you registered for, pay only $10/class to drop into as many more as you like.

I hope you can join us.  Come Dance!
